Close Encounters

This platter was a joint effort between myself and my partner in glass, Maurge Dulaney.  

We spent many hours together working on fused glass projects, completing our doctoral degrees, and escaping into the theories of our ancient past.  This piece evolved one day in my studio after we cut the base glass-we moved around black lines until music staves appeared.  The remainder of the piece simply "sang to us".

I started making fused glass art and functional pieces in my home in Central Oregon when I was in the final phases of completing my PhD.  The mix of academic thought and artistic play inspired the name PhG.


The landscapes and people in Central Oregon are what moved me to craft cowboy boots from glass! 

This piece is 12wX14h and held in a black metal frame (included).

What is Philosophy of Glass?     

It is a way of being-solid, yet vulnerable.  It is a way of thinking-clear and sharp but capable of being softened and reformed.  It is a way of knowing-accepting the existence of one form and using it to mold others.  This is my approach to life and to my art.  This is the philosophy of glass.

Hello, I am Alisa, a doctor of philosophy, an educator, a nurse, and a glass artist.  I am so fascinated by how our world has become connected, by the ways we can reach out and touch each other and how because of this connectedness our minds are challenged and our thoughts expanded.  I am excited to now share my work and my ideas with you.  My hope is that you enjoy what I produce and are challenged, if even a little, by what you find here.

This mountain scape captures what I have seen Mt. Jefferson look like from my sister's backyard at sunset.  The picture is nearly 12 inches circular and rests nicely in a plastic or metal easel for display (not included). 

The mountain is light brown glass.

The sky is a combination of white, oranges, reds, and black frit.

The moon is white glass, although it looks much whiter in the photos than it truly is.

Inspiration for some of my glass work comes from the landscape and wildlife around me.  I live in a picturesque place that has slowly begun to strip away the chaos of the city life I used to live.  I now enjoy birds and butterflies in my garden, colorful sunsets, and dark star lit nights.
